Montréal, September 5, 2025 - Hydro-Québec is ramping up vegetation control operations as well as preventive work on its distribution system in Dollard-des-Ormeaux and the L’Île-Bizard–Sainte-Geneviève borough to improve service quality in areas experiencing overly frequent outages.

Over the course of this summer, Hydro-Québec recorded an increase in the number of complaints about the frequency of outages in this highly wooded sector. These outages are mainly caused by contact between vegetation and power lines as well as distribution equipment failures. Although the situation has improved since last year owing to the completion of several maintenance operations, a faulty system component has caused a large number of outages in the past two months. The defect has since been fixed. Additional work will also be carried out by our teams by the end of the year to improve service quality in the sector. We are aware of the inconveniences this is causing our customers and are fully dedicated to improving the situation.

In response to the frequent outages observed in the sector and in collaboration with the city of DDO and the L’Île-Bizard–Sainte-Geneviève borough, Hydro-Québec has developed a priority action plan that aims to reduce the number and duration of outages beginning this year. In addition to our current maintenance operations and regular vegetation control schedule, we will be carrying out targeted work on vegetation near the distribution system. We also plan to install new equipment that will enable us to reduce the number of customers affected by equipment failures and speed up service restoration.

We’re doing everything we can to improve service quality and reduce the number of outages in Dollard-des-Ormeaux and the L’Île-Bizard–Sainte-Geneviève borough. We’re also making every effort to ensure the work is completed by the end of 2025. We are aware of the inconveniences this situation may cause and request your patience as our teams carry out the necessary work,” said Samir Paraïso, Director – Operations and Maintenance – Distribution at Hydro-Québec.

Hydro-Québec will provide customers with at least 24 hours’ notice prior to any planned service interruptions in connection with the work to improve service quality. Residents can also get updates on upcoming service interruptions on our website or app.
