Thierry Vandal, Hydro-Québec’s President and CEO, awarded an honorary doctorate

Montréal, November 19, 2012 – Thierry Vandal, Hydro-Québec’s President and CEO, was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Institut national des sciences appliquées (INSA) in Lyon, France yesterday, during the 25th edition of the Entretiens Jacques Cartier. This distinction was bestowed upon him in recognition of his significant contribution to the energy sector.

“I am very honored by this mark of recognition,” said Mr. Vandal during his speech. “No one can reach such professional achievements without the help and support of devoted and dependable collaborators throughout their career. I would thus like to take this opportunity to thank and honor the management and employees of Hydro-Québec, the great company that is a cornerstone of Québec’s energy and economic development.”

Mr. Vandal has acted as President and CEO of Hydro-Québec since 2005. He has been active in the North American energy industry for close to thirty years, working in oil, petrochemicals and natural gas.

Mr. Vandal earned an engineering degree from École polytechnique de Montréal in 1982 and an MBA from HEC Montréal in 1995. In 2007, the Université de Montréal awarded him an honorary doctorate to underscore his outstanding professional contribution to the energy sector.

In June 2012, Mr. Vandal was elected a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering. During the same month, he was named 2012 Energy Person of the Year by the Energy Council of Canada.
