Hydro-Québec’s positive assessment of its 2024 distribution activities is published in its annual accountability report

Montréal, April 22, 2025 – As part of its annual accountability reporting, Hydro-Québec is publishing a positive assessment of its 2024 distribution activities, to be filed with the Régie de l’énergie, particularly with regard to electricity service quality, investment in the distribution system and customer service.

The document can be consulted online – (in French only)

Highlights:

Electricity service quality

Electricity service quality improved significantly in 2024. The unadjusted System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI), which reflects the average number of minutes of service interruption per customer, was down by half compared with 2023, with 436 minutes of service interruption time per customer. This improvement is due not only to the fact that fewer major weather events occurred during the year but also to our extensive vegetation control and maintenance work.

Average lead time for a simple overhead connection

The average lead time for a simple overhead connection decreased by nearly two days between 2023 and 2024, going from 10.2 days to 8.4 days. This 18% improvement was due to a more predictable number of connection requests combined with closer monitoring begun in 2024 in a bid to reduce the completion time for the most common types of connection requests by 40% by 2028, which is one of the objectives outlined in the Action Plan 2035 – Towards a Decarbonized and Prosperous Québec.

Energy efficiency – more important than ever before

Programs designed to help our customers make better use of energy

Our energy efficiency initiatives resulted in 30% more energy savings compared with the previous year, helping to limit the need for new infrastructure and keep rates low for years to come.

The programs designed for residential customers led to total electricity savings of 390.3 GWh and 22 MW. Expenditures and investments in this regard reached $256.5 million.

Programs designed to help customers make better use of electricity include all the energy efficiency programs through which Hydro-Québec offers its residential customers financial assistance to purchase and install eligible products.

The energy savings are primarily due to the LogisVert Efficient Homes Program, which offers several measures to Québec customers and has met with much success since it was officially launched in January 2024.
