Press Release

Hydro-Québec welcomes the Canada Electricity Advisory Council’s report

Hydro-Québec welcomes the report tabled today by the Canada Electricity Advisory Council. The report favors a reliable, affordable and inclusive transition to clean energy sources.

In Hydro-Québec’s Action Plan 2035 released last November, the company stressed that the legal and regulatory framework must evolve to take into account the current context and provide the leverage required to carry out the energy transition.

By recommending a simplification of project reviews and supporting the establishment of equivalency mechanisms with the provinces, the Council’s recommendations to the federal government are in line with Hydro-Québec’s vision, that of daring to do things differently in order to take action quickly for the common good.

Hydro-Québec also welcomes the recommendations that aim to increase the loan guarantee program and provide additional support for First Nations and Inuit communities, as well as broaden access to energy efficiency programs, in particular for low-income households.

A beneficial energy transition

The analyses of the Canada Electricity Advisory Council also show that the transition to clean energy sources will reduce the use of fossil fuels and overall energy consumption. According to their report, this will result in savings for consumers.
