Spring break at Beauharnois generating station: A free, one-of-a-kind outing

The Beauharnois hydropower station will exceptionally open its doors during Spring break. Hydro-Québec invites you and your family to discover this majestic generating station, where art and science form an electrifying duo.

You can see a generating unit in action and get a picture of how a run-of-river station generates the electricity that supplies a great number of households. The whole family will be impressed!

Exceptional since 1932

A designated national historic site, Beauharnois is Hydro-Québec’s most powerful run-of-river plant and one of the biggest in the world. With its 36 generating units spread out over nearly a kilometre, it plays a key role in Hydro-Québec’s grid. Soak up the amazing history of this venerable powerhouse in its stunning setting. 

Our guides are great at describing the history of the generating station and explaining scientific concepts in a clear and simple way. They’ll be delighted to tailor your tour to the profile of your group.

Tour times

March 3 to March 11, inclusive, at 9:30 a.m., 11:15 a.m., 1:15 p.m. and 2:45 p.m.

Tours take 90 minutes.

Visitors aged 18 and over must show valid photo ID before entering the facility.

For safety reasons, tours are not recommended for children younger than two.

The generating station is located right in the town of Beauharnois, near Melocheville, in
Montérégie. It’s easy to get to – just take Exit 22 off Highway 30.
