Hydro-Québec introduces a new procurement strategy to maximize economic benefits in Québec for its major wind power projects
To increase the safety of boaters and fishers between the municipalities of Coteau-du-Lac and Pointe-des-Cascades, Hydro-Québec will be replacing existing booms (safety buoys) and installing additional ones near our control structures on the Fleuve Saint-Laurent (St. Lawrence River). The work is slated to begin in August 2023.
The new buoys will be used to visually mark out hazardous areas and facilitate rescue operations in the event of an incident.
The work consists of installing anchors on the riverbank and riverbed using a barge, and then attaching the new buoys. Our teams will then dismantle the existing booms. The work will be performed in accordance with current environmental and regulatory requirements, including regulations on the protection of fish habitats and marine safety standards.
The work will be carried out in two phases:
Phase 1: Drilling and installing anchors and permanent booms – Summer and fall 2023
Phase 2: Installing the remaining permanent booms and seasonal booms – Spring and summer 2024
