Hydro-Québec – Issue of Debentures Due February 15, 2065 on the Canadian Market
Aware of the concerns expressed by local communities with regard to its proposed 120-kV line project, Hydro-Québec continues to work with local communities and their representatives in an effort to propose the solution that is best suited to the region.
Hydro-Québec has set up a regional technical committee, which will begin its work as of next week.
In addition, in recent days, Hydro-Québec received an engineer’s report outlining possible solutions with regard to the municipality of Saint-Adolphe-d’Howard. The report will be carefully reviewed by Hydro-Québec specialists.
The regional technical committee is made up of 15 land use, environment, and landscape specialists, mandated by the concerned municipal authorities (municipalities and MRCs), the Conférence régionale des élus des Laurentides – Projet Paysages Laurentides, the Conseil régional de l’environnement des Laurentides and Hydro-Québec.
Its mandate will be to identify the needs of the region to ensure its development and examine the scenarios studied by Hydro-Québec in order to better meet the growing electricity needs in the Pays-d'en-Haut and Laurentides MRCs.
Hydro-Québec will keep the public informed on the evolution of the regional technical committee’s work.
This 120-kV line will sustain residential, economic and tourism development in the Pays-d’en-Haut and Laurentides MRCs. It will meet the current electricity needs as well as those for the next 20 years.
- Electricity needs in the Laurentides and Pays-d’en-Haut MRCs have grown by 20% between 2004 and 2012, and continue to increase. The annual growth of electricity demand is 2.8%, twice the Québec average.
- Many electricity substations and transmission lines in the Laurentides have reached their capacity.
Hydro-Québec has the obligation to meet the current and future needs of the region. The company plans its network for the long-term and ensures that the network evolves adequately to meet electricity needs.
