Hydro-Québec introduces a new procurement strategy to maximize economic benefits in Québec for its major wind power projects
Quebecers pay the lowest electricity rates in Canada, and across North America.
In Montréal, as in the rest of Québec, residential consumers pay an average price 7.3¢ per kilowatthour (kWh), compared to Winnipeg at 9.4¢/kWh, Vancouver at 11.6¢/kWh and Toronto at 13.9¢/kWh. In the United States, New York customers pay 30.6¢/kWh, or 4 times more than Montrealers for the same amount of electricity. And in Boston, it’s even more at 33.4¢/kWh.
This data is available in the 2019 edition of: Comparison of Electricity Prices in Major North Américan Cities
a comparative analysis of electricity rates published every year by Hydro-Québec, based on 22 utilities in Canada and the United States:
“Our customers appreciate these low rates, and their satisfaction has been a priority for Hydro-Québec for a number of years,” said Éric Filion, President of Hydro-Québec Distribution. “These rates are kept low without compromising on system maintenance, which allows us to further strengthen our system, and bolster its reliability.”
