Press Release

New England Clean Energy Connect –Court refuses the injunction requested by Hydro-Québec’s partner

In a decision handed down on October 21, the Superior Court of Maine refused the injunction requested by Hydro-Québec’s partner in the New England Clean Energy Connect (NECEC) project. Hydro-Québec would obviously have preferred that the Court allow the resumption of construction work on the NECEC transmission line during the ongoing legal proceedings related to the decision issued by Maine’s Supreme Court last August 30.

On August 30, the Supreme Court of Maine recognized the unconstitutionality of the law resulting from the referendum held in November 2021. The Court also remanded the case back to the trial court to confirm the vested rights of Hydro-Québec’s partner in the project. These legal proceedings will continue until a judgement is rendered in 2023.

Hydro-Québec remains convinced of the merits of the NECEC project and its importance for the North-East as a whole.
