Hydro-Québec presents its 2021 distribution activities to the Régie de l’énergie

Montréal, April 25, 2022 – Hydro-Québec files a summary of its 2021 distribution activities with the Régie de l’énergie further to its obligations under An Act to simplify the process for establishing electricity distribution rates.

Grouped into eight documents, the information addresses the quality of electricity service, the Distributor’s performance in terms of customer service, and investments made in the power grid. The documents (in French only) are available online.

The pandemic had an impact on activities, as was the case in 2020, but a gradual return to normal is underway.

Highlights:

Unprecedented increase in requests for work

In 2021, the Distributor experienced an unprecedented increase in requests for work. This is due to a significant rise in construction starts as part of a trend observed throughout the construction industry. This situation also had an impact on the ability of teams to handle requests in the usual timeframes.

Drop in complaints
In 2021, the Distributor received a total of 1,562 verbal and written complaints, down 3% from 2020 and 30% compared to 2019. The decrease is largely attributable to the maintenance of measures Hydro-Québec put in place to support customers experiencing payment difficulties related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Energy efficiency still a top priority
In February 2021, Hydro-Québec integrated a new measure in its portfolio of energy efficiency offers: the Efficient Heat Pump Program. Residential customers can now receive financial assistance for the installation of an eligible heat pump.

As at December 31, 2021, more than 30,000 heat pumps had been installed, generating 102 gigawatthours (GWh) in energy savings.

The document entitled Efficacité énergétique [in French only] provides information on energy savings achieved through Hydro-Québec’s energy efficiency programs since 2018.

Anyone wishing to consult the information about Hydro-Québec’s 2021 distribution activities and share observations or provide complementary information can do so by Monday, May 9, 2022, on the dedicated website.
