Press Release

Chamouchouane–Bout-de-l’Île transmission line projectHydro-Québec receives authorization from the Régie de l’énergie

Hydro-Québec is pleased with the two decisions that were released today by the Régie de l’énergie concerning the 735-kV Chamouchouane–Bout-de-l’Île project and the construction of the new Judith-Jasmin substation. The Régie mentioned, in particular, that it is of the opinion that Hydro-Québec TransÉnergie demonstrated the undeniable need for the solution presented as part of the Project.

Indeed, the Régie emphasized that it is pleased with Hydro-Québec TransÉnergie’s efforts in providing all of the explanations and clarifications required and that it presented thorough proof that complies with the requirements of the regulatory framework. In addition, the Régie confirmed that the Judith-Jasmin substation is needed in order to respond to the challenges of maintaining and improving the service quality of the network and meeting regional load growth in the area.

The 735-kV Chamouchouane–Bout-de-l’Île project is the best and most cost-effective technical solution for alleviating congestion on the network while maintaining the system’s reliability and ensuring its robustness. The project will contribute to reducing electrical losses on the network considerably, roughly by the amount of energy consumed by a city the size of Repentigny. The project will save the company tens of millions of dollars, to say nothing of the major economic spinoffs of about $1.1 billion dollars that it is expected to generate for Québec and the thousand full-time jobs it will create over a five-year period.
