Press Release

Incident involving Hydro-Québec’s supplier employee information

During the month of August, Hydro-Québec learned that the personal information of almost 300 supplier employees was disclosed on an external website. No Hydro-Québec customers were affected. This incident does not concern any data such as social insurance number or banking information.

This incident resulted when a person who had access to the information made it available without authorization. This person is no longer employed by Hydro-Québec. Hydro-Québec is working with the relevant authorities to help ensure that appropriate actions are taken.

In addition to certain public professional information, the database contained employee birth dates, home addresses and telephone numbers.

Hydro-Québec will support those affected, who have been contacted individually. By itself, the information in question would not be sufficient for identity theft, but we have recommended that anyone affected remain vigilant because in combination with other information, it could be used for that purpose.

Hydro-Québec takes the protection of the personal information of its employees, suppliers and clients very seriously.
