Press Release

Hydro-Québec takes note of the progress made in the Québec–New England Interconnection Project (Northern Pass Transmission)

A major interconnection project that will allow Hydro-Québec to increase its exports of electricity to New England has just taken a major step forward. Hydro-Québec and its partner, Eversource Energy, are pleased with the report published on July 21 by the US Department of Energy concerning the portion of the project located in New Hampshire.

The promoter of this part of the project is Northern Pass Transmission (NPT), a subsidiary of Eversource Energy, which is a major electric company in the region and Hydro-Québec's partner in the development of this electrical infrastructure project.

Hydro-Québec is confident that its partner will find appropriate solutions to address the comments put forth in the report. The publication of this report will allow Eversource Energy to begin a new phase of public consultation in New Hampshire. For more information about the report, please visit http://blog.northernpass.us/2015/07/21/northern-pass-statement-on-the-issuance-of-draft-environmental-impact-statement.

The launch of a request for proposals (RFP) by Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut for the delivery of clean energy represents significant business opportunities in New England. Hydro-Québec, which produces more than 99% of its energy from water, is preparing to participate in this RFP.

Taking into account these positive developments, Hydro-Québec is moving forward with this important interconnection project, an initiative that is part of its strategy for growth outside Québec.
