Press Release

Major fluctuations in the water level on Rivière Saint-François in Drummondville

Hydro-Québec would like to inform customers in the Drummondville region that the water level on Rivière Saint-François between Drummondville and Chute-Hemmings generating stations and upstream of Chute-Hemmings generating station will be subject to major fluctuations after September 8, 2024.

Hydro-Québec needs to carry out special operations to recover the bags it used to create an inshore trench in order to repair a supporting wall. The bags need to be removed before the fall flood season.

To allow the workers to safely access the shoreline, we must carry out special operations at both generating stations. We will lower the water level upstream of Chute-Hemmings generating station before closing the gates and retaining the water while the work is being carried out on the shoreline. Once the maximum level is reached, the employees will leave the work area and the water will be released. This operation will be repeated until all the bags have been removed.

The work will begin when the flow of the river has been less than 130 m3/sec over three consecutive days. We will inform the public approximately three days in advance.

The Curé-Marchand bridge will be closed one or two days before the work begins in order to prepare the worksite. The work will take a few days based on the potential working hours, which will be determined by the water inflow.

For all riverside residents who need to move or remove their docks and boats, we strongly recommend that they do so before September 8, which is the date on which we may begin the work based on the hydraulic conditions.

Although we understand the inconvenience of this exceptional situation, it is nevertheless the solution with the least impact. We will inform residents of the work start date as soon as possible.
